(CHARLESTON, W.VA.)---After dropping a tough a 5-4 decision to Charleston on October 11, the Wesleyan women's tennis team gained a measure of revenge on Saturday, beating Charleston when it counted by a 5-1 count in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) championship match.
It was a sweet victory for the Lady Bobcats, who narrowly missed out on a conference championship last season.
On Saturday, Wesleyan cruised to a three match sweep in doubles play to gain control early.
Nicole Andreini and Anastasiya Scherbakova defeated Neha Rana and Alyssa Hackworth 8-3 at number one, Marcella Torres and Maisa Shigematsu downed Katie Kim and Ilaisanne Carter 8-4 at number two, and Paige Hathaway and Olga Demina knocked off Alyssa Hackworth and Christina Samoilov 8-4 in the third position.
The Lady Bobcats finished business in singles play by taking two out of the three completed matches.
Nicole Andreini beat Monsheimer in straight sets at number three 6-0, 6-2 and Samantha Coral squeaked out a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1 win in the number four position.
"I was very pleased with our performance in doubles play," head coach Lee Underwood said. "It was a great tournament and a total team effort. We really lived up to our potential this weekend."
The win concludes a perfect 3-0 weekend at the WVIAC tournament in Charleston. Wesleyan wraps their Fall schedule with an overall record of 12-1 and will now turn their attention to their Spring slate.
