Wesleyan Blanks Charleston For WVIAC Men's Tennis Crown

Alvaro Ochoa won a straight sets 6-1, 6-0 decision at #2 singles to help WV Wesleyan capture the WVIAC Men's Tennis Tournament title.
(CHARLESTON, W.Va.)---West Virginia Wesleyan remained unbeaten versus Division II squads and raised their record to 20-2 with a 5-0 victory over Charleston in the WVIAC Men's Tennis Tournament championship match.
Wesleyan jumped to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. Marc Rosner and Rafael Cavalcante downed Matt Hughest and Sam Humphrey 8-3 at #1 doubles, while Alvaro Ochoa and Daniel Lobo downed Reid McEwen and Kris Riede by the same tally in #2 doubles.
Doug Hornak and Dennis Cole provided the third Bobcat point in the day's hardest fought match. The #3 doubles pair for Wesleyan edged Rico Williams and Eric Bodge 9-8 (9-7) to wrap up double plays.
Straight set victories by Ochoa (#2 singles) and Cavalcante (#3 singles) clinched the victory for the Bobcats.
Wesleyan earns the WVIAC's automatic bid to the May 6-8 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. The Bobcats are likely to be the top seed and host one of the two sub-regional events. As many as three other WVIAC teams are expected to earn at-large bids.
