WVIAC Claims Eight Ranked Tennis Squads In First Regional Rankings Of '09-'10 Season

(INDIANAPOLIS)---The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee has released its first NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings of the 2010 season. 

WVIAC teams have a strong presence in both sets of rankings.  League schools own four of the top six spots on the men's side led by top-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan.  No. 3 Charleston, No. 4 Bluefield State, and No. 6 West Liberty also represent the WVIAC in the men's top ten.

Fourth-ranked Charleston is the highest ranked WVIAC women's squad.  The Golden Eagles are followed immediately in the ratings by No. 5 West Virginia Wesleyan and No. 6 West Virginia State.  Shepherd holds the tenth spot.

The top ten teams in each poll with records through April 4, are listed below.  Championship selections will take place Wednesday, April 28.

Atlantic Region Men:
1. West Virginia Wesleyan (10-2 overall, 7-0 in-region)
2. Bloomsburg, PA (6-3 overall, 6-0 in-region)
3. Charleston (14-5 overall, 11-4 in-region)
4. Bluefield State (7-6 overall, 6-4 in-region)

5. Shaw, NC (15-6 overall, 13-3 in-region)
6. West Liberty (8-7 overall, 6-4 in-region)
7. Virginia State (13-6 overall, 12-5 in-region)
8. Mercyhurst, PA (8-8 overall, 2-2 in-region)
9. Kutztown, PA (5-2 overall, 4-0 in-region)
10. Johnson C. Smith, NC (13-12 overall, 12-12 in-region)

Atlantic Region Women:
1. California, PA (15-5 overall, 7-0 in-region)
