(INDIANAPOLIS)---For the first time, three WVIAC softball squads have qualified for the NCAA post-season.  WVIAC champion West Virginia Wesleyan, Shepherd, and Fairmont State each earned spots into this week's Atlantic Regional.

Play begins Friday in a pair of four-team, double elimination sub-regionals.  No. 4 seed West Virginia Wesleyan (42-10) battles No. 5 Indiana, PA (34-10) at Bloomsburg, PA.  Top-seeded Bloomsburg (44-5) and Chowan (30-19) comprise the other matchup in that sub-regional.

No. 7 Fairmont State (31-18) makes the short trip to California, PA to face the host and second-seeded Vulcans of Cal U (34-12).  No. 6 Shepherd (35-14) will also battle No. 3 Kutztown (41-16) in the remaining pairing at Cal.

Wesleyan is making their 10th appearance into the NCAA Tournament, a figure tied for 24th most trips among Division II softball squads.  The Bobcats are 11-17 in their NCAA post-season history.  Shepherd dropped both games in the school's previous appearance in 2007.  Fairmont State is participating in the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

The champions from each of this weekend's sub-regionals will play a best-of-three series on the weekend of May 21-22 at the site of the highest remaining survivor. The eight regional champions advance to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship to be played at Heritage Park in St. Joseph’s, Missouri later this month.
