Seven WVIAC Stars Named To Daktronics All-Region Softball Squad

Shepherd first baseman/pitcher Nichole Pitcock is the first player in program history to earn first team all-region status.

(LOCK HAVEN, PA)---First team honorees Nichole Pitcock of Shepherd and Kashilia Young of West Virginia Wesleyan highlight seven WVIAC selections to the 2010 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region softball team.

Pitcock, who became Shepherd's initial first team all-region pick after helping the Rams to a school-record 36 wins, batted .348 with five home runs and 35 runs batted in.  The Sterling, VA junior also owned a 15-7 record in the pitching circle with a 1.76 earned run average.

Young earns first team honors as an outfielder after leading the WVIAC with 13 home runs in 2010.  The Arkansas City, KS junior additionally contributed a .361 batting average and 41 runs batted in to the WVIAC regular season and tournament champion Bobcats.

West Virginia Wesleyan teammates Dana Goguen (1B) and Patricia Moreno (P) were second team honorees.  West Virginia State also had two second team picks in shortstop Brittany Hyatt and outfielder Kayla Sturms.  Charleston pitcher Stefanie Rossman rounds out the WVIAC selections.

The squad was selected by sports information directors from around the region.  The Atlantic Region consists of players from the WVIAC, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
