(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---WVIAC baseball coaches have awarded top 2010 player honors to Concord's Greyson Schram and Wheeling Jesuit's Noah Mull. Alderson-Broaddus' Bill Barr and West Virginia Wesleyan's Randy Tenney were recognized by their peers as the conference's co-Coaches of the Year.
Schram earned WVIAC Player and Hitter of the Year honors, while Mull took the hardware for league Pitcher of the Year accolades.
Schram recorded a regular season WVIAC triple crown, leading the league with a .530 batting average, 18 home runs, and 77 runs batted in. The Stanley, NC senior tops Division II in batting average, runs batted in per game, slugging percentage (1.130), and on-base percentage (.612). His 0.51 homers per game rank second nationally. The slugging second baseman is a key reason for Concord's 28-7 overall record and an offense that averages over 11 runs per outing.
Mull has been overpowering for much of the 2010 campaign, posting a 7-1 record with a WVIAC-best 2.09 earned run average. The Wheeling native has limited opponents to a .194 batting average and ranks second in Division II with 13.02 strikeouts per nine innings. He owns four complete games with a pair of shutouts. The former Wheeling Central HS star has fanned 81 hitters compared to only 39 hits and 21 walks in 56.0 innings pitched.
Barr took over an A-B squad that was expected to finish fourth in the Central Division and led it to a 27-12 overall mark. The Battlers' 13-3 Central Division record was good enough for a divisional title and the Battlers are currently ranked tenth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Atlantic Region top ten.
Tenney has guided Wesleyan to 21 straight victories entering the WVIAC Tournament. The 29-10 Bobcats finished Central Division play at 12-4, good for second in the division. The veteran head coach previously won league coaching honors in 1991, 1992, and 1999. The Buckhannon native owns a 610-362 record in 24 seasons as the Wesleyan head coach. He still owns the WVWC single-season (29) and career (78) records for stolen bases.
Davis & Elkins senior infielder Josh Lopez was selected by conference coaches to receive the Shannon Stewart Heart and Hustle Award.
The starting pitchers on the 2010 All-WVIAC first team are Mull, Davis & Elkins' Zach McElroy, Seton Hill's Brian Warheit, and Alderson-Broaddus' unbeaten Ronnie Whitt. West Virginia State's Evan Kendall, who is 4-0 with five saves, is the relief pitcher.
Seton Hill slugger Pat Trettel is the catcher after accounting for a school single-season record 71 runs batted in. The right side of the first team infield has combined for 30 home runs with Schram holding down second base and Shepherd's Nate Minnich at first base. The remainder of the infield consists of shortstops Donovan Huffer (Concord) and Caigan O'Callahan (Davis & Elkins), along with West Virginia Wesleyan's Matt Coker at third base.
The outfield is patrolled by Charleston's Andrew Armstrong, West Virginia Wesleyan's Corey Flickinger, West Virginia State's Bo Darby, and Concord's Keith Morrisroe, the Division II leader in runs scored per game. West Virginia State's Ryne Holstine, a first team honoree as a pitcher last season, is the designated hitter.
Holstine, Trettel, Huffer, and Darby are repeat selections from the 2009 top squad. Darby also earned first team honors in 2008, as did Schram.
