(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---West Virginia Conference softball student-athletes contributed over $2500 of equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg during the conference's recent post-season tournament.
Spearheaded by the WVIAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), league players donated gently-used catcher's gear, batting helmets, gloves, and equipment bags that will be used in the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg's baseball and softball programs.
"I'm proud of our softball student-athletes for their efforts with the Boys and Girls Club," said WVIAC assistant commissioner and SAAC advisor Stephanie Prewitt. "The initial suggestion came from the University of Charleston's SAAC and I have to give a lot of credit to Stefanie Rossman (UC softball player and SAAC member) and Rachel Pike (UC SAAC advisor) for helping bring this project to fruition. This is exactly what we want to do as part of Division II's focus on commmunity engagement."
The WVIAC consists of 15 member schools in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. The league is one of the oldest in collegiate athletics dating to a 1924 establishment. It sponsors championships in 16 sports.
