Offensive Player of the Week:
---Bobby Humphries, Shepherd, 6-3, 250, Sr., FB, Frederick, MD: Humphries' fourth quarter touchdown rushes of 20 and 66 yards helped the Rams post a 35-27 win at defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Shippensburg...The senior gained 90 yards on three rush attempts and added a two-yard pass reception...His lead and pass blocking helped Shepherd roll up 532 yards of total offense, including 312 on the ground.

Defensive Player of the Week:
---Jonas Celian, West Virginia Wesleyan, 6-0, 200, Soph., DE, North Lauderdale, FL: Celian played a key part as West Virginia Wesleyan limited Saint Paul's to negative-12 rush yards in the Bobcats' 35-28 victory...The Florida native made seven stops, including three for a loss of 17 yards, and also broke up a pair of passes...He also notched one of WVWC's six sacks on the afternoon.

Special Teams Player of the Week:
---Mike Franklin, Shepherd, 6-2, 310, Fr., DL, Elkridge, MD: Franklin provided a crucial momentum-swinging blocked point after in Shepherd's 35-27 win over Shippensburg...The rookie defensive tackle swatted down Drew Newcomer's extra-point attempt late in the the third quarter that would have tied the game at 21-each.

Zack Grossi (CU) completed 17 of 24 passes for 299 yards and five touchdowns...Trey Massey (WVWC) rushed 16 times for 117 yards and three touchdowns...Gary Roach (CU) had two touchdown receptions and added a short rushing touchdown...Nate Hoyte (SU) rushed 16 times for 93 yards and a touchdown...Kevin Clancy (SU) completed 18 of 30 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns...Adam Neugebauer (WVWC) hit on 25 of 32 passes for 222 yards and two scores...D.J. News & Notes:
---WVIAC squads recorded a 4-1 record on the season's opening weekend, including a 3-0 mark versus fellow NCAA Division II Super Region I members.

---Week #2 of the 2010 season will see eight of the league's nine schools in action...Glenville State hosts West Virginia Tech, while Fairmont State travels to Clarion to open the action on Thursday night...Saturday's slate is headed up by West Liberty's home contest versus Edinboro...The squads met twice last year as Edinboro won 42-30 in the regular season, while West Liberty gained revenge with a record-shattering 84-63 playoff victory...The rest of Saturday's schedule includes: Urbana at West Virginia Wesleyan, Mars Hill at Charleston, New Haven at Seton Hill, Concord at Lenoir-Rhyne, and West Virginia State vs. Central State in Dayton, OH.

---Concord's 72-21 win over NAIA member Southern Virginia provided the fourth-highest point total in school history...The Mountain Lions downed Morris Harvey 107-0 in 1924, blitzed Bluefield College 86-7 during 1924, and whacked West Virginia State 83-7 in 1966.

---Shepherd has won six straight in their Great Valley Classic rivalry versus Shippensburg following Saturday's 35-27 victory...The Rams are the league's lone squad with an open date this week as they don't return to action until Saint Joseph's (IN) pays a visit to the Eastern Panhandle on September 11.

---When West Virginia Wesleyan limited Saint Paul's to minus-12 rush yards in a 35-28 win on Saturday, it marked the first time that the Bobcat defense kept the opposition in negative figures on the ground since October 11, 2003 when WVWC held Concord to minus-14 rush yards in a 56-14 rout.

---Seton Hill's 20-14 win over Bowie State represented the fewest points allowed by the Griffins since a 14-7 triumph over American International on November 15, 2008 in an opening round NCAA Division II playoff contest.

---Fullbacks have often become forgotten men in spread offenses that are common in college football, but the WVIAC's opening week saw them shine...Shepherd's Bobby Humphries accounted for key fourth quarter touchdowns of 20 and 66 yards, while Concord's Gary Roach did him one better with three touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing).

---The home team has won all four contests in the Tusculum-Charleston series after the Golden Eagles dropped a 24-12 decision in Greeneville, Tennessee on Saturday...UC was held under 200 yards on the ground for only the fifth time in their last 20 contests as the Golden Eagles only mustered 156 rush yards on 37 carries in the defeat.

---West Virginia Tech's trip to Glenville State on Thursday evening marks the first time that the Golden Bears have played a WVIAC member since dropping to the NAIA level in 2005...Tech fell 34-3 to Fairmont State on November 5, 2005 in their last outing against a WVIAC squad...This year's Golden Bears got off to a strong start with a 31-9 win over Olivet Nazarene on Saturday...Former West Liberty star Kashif Walls, who transferred to WVU-T over the summer, caught four passes for 169 yards and two scores to lead Tech...GSC leads the overall series 31-19-3.

---West Virginia State's upcoming trip to Dayton, Ohio to battle Central State will start an hour later than originally scheduled...The September 4 Dayton Football Classic is now slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
