In-Region Clashes Highlight WVIAC Men's Soccer Openers

(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---Five clashes with regional foes from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference highlight the opening two days of the 2010 WVIAC men's soccer season.
Five squads take to the pitch on Thursday. Shepherd hosts Lock Haven, Alderson-Broaddus travels to California (PA), and Seton Hill heads to Mercyhurst (PA) in afternoon action. Wheeling Jesuit and West Virginia Wesleyan will open at home under the lights as WJU faces Lake Erie and WVWC squares off with former WVIAC member West Virginia Tech.
Four more teams have their opener on Friday, including defending champion Charleston. The nationally-ranked Golden Eagles battle homestanding Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m. Concord hosts a doubleheader as the Mountain Lions take on Holy Family, while Davis & Elkins meets East Stroudsburg. An Ohio Valley-Bethany (WV) clash in New Concord, Ohio rounds out Friday's schedule.
Pitt Johnstown is the final league squad to open their season when the Mountain Cats host the University of District of Columbia at noon on Saturday.
The first WVIAC match of the year takes place on September 8 when Concord welcomes Davis & Elkins to Anderson Field in Athens.
