Charleston, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, Shepherd, WV State and WV Wesleyan all recorded WVIAC victories Saturday.
Pitt-Johnstown 77, Bluefield State 42
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Pitt-Johnstown built a 25-point halftime advantage and knocked off Bluefield State 77-42.
Kaitlynn Fratz registered a game-high 17 points and six assists to go along with four thefts in the victory for the Lady Cats. Kelsey Sleighter netted 10 points while Amber Smith posted 10 points and six rebounds. Nicole Carman, Grace Hyland and Sara Trimarco all had nine points.
Dragana Tomic paced the Lady Blues with 12 points, four steals and three steals. Tasia Nolan had a solid game with 10 points, seven rebounds and six thefts.
Charleston 73, Davis & Elkins 63
ELKINS, W. Va. – The University of Charleston erased a 16-point halftime deficit with a 53-point second half en route to a 73-63 win at Davis & Elkins.
In the second half, UC drained 23-of-31 shots from the floor for 74.2 percent. Nichole Perry guided the Golden Eagles with 17 points. Lauren Davis and Chrissy Keir each notched 14 points while Erika Rousculp totaled 12. Rousculp also had a game-best four steals. Marilene Lapierre grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Jorden Lykes recorded a game-high 22 points and a game-best eight rebounds in the loss. Rachel Gostomski and Page Turner each tallied nine points. Turner and Victoria Lyles each dished out seven assists. Lyles also had a team-high three steals. D&E sank 11 three-point buckets in the game.
Shepherd 66, Concord 59
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Shepherd came from behind to down Concord 66-59 in WVIAC action.
The Rams used a 7-0 run over the final 2:01 to complete the comeback win. Shepherd trailed by nine with 11:04 to play off a lay-up by Andrea Bertrand.
The Rams used a balanced attack with four in double figures. Katie Biggs led the home squad with 16 points while Alex Tamez chipped in 13. Emily Daniel and Jenn Prine each added 10 points. Biggs totaled four steals and Prine had three. Jimyse Brown notched seven points and a team-best nine rebounds.
Jolysa Brown had a game-high 20 points in the contest for the Mountain Lions. She also pulled down five rebounds, had two blocks and three steals. Bertrand tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Artrip added nine points and two blocks.
WV Wesleyan 80, Ohio Valley 59
BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – WV Wesleyan posted an 80-59 win over visiting Ohio Valley Saturday afternoon.
Lydia Bridenbaugh led the victors with a team-best 17 points. Jamie Kaufman had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also had five assists. Daria Abros’kina had a huge game with 14 points, nine boards and seven assists. Brittany Maxey added 12 markers while Kerry Conroy came off the bench to hit for nine.
In the loss, Shelby Way garnered a game-high 28 points for the Fighting Scots. Amber Avery accounted for 10 points. Dakeisha Mann totaled seven boards and three steals. Brittany Taylor grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists.
Seton Hill 97, Glenville State 73
GREENSBURG, Pa. – Seton Hill’s huge first half propelled the home squad to a 97-73 victory over then-league-leading Glenville State.
Tiara Stossel poured in a game-high 29 points and shared game-best honors with seven assists. Katie Gattuso narrowly missed a double-double in the win with 17 points and nine boards. Anne Marie Olesky tallied 12 points, 12 boards and five assists. Paige Alviani accounted for 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Ginny Petties amassed 17 points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers in the loss. Mishae Miles totaled 13 points, 14 boards and four assists. Tenisha Wilson had 13 points and swatted away three shots. Danielle Woodmore garnered six of her team’s 12 assists. GSC drained 10 three-point shots in the contest.
WV State 75, Alderson-Broaddus-Broaddus 61
PHILIPPI, W. Va. – A big first half gave WV State a lead it would not relinquish in the 75-61 win at Alderson-Broaddus.
The Yellow Jackets buried 30-of-52 shots in the game from the field (57.7 percent). Sissy Wagner netted a team-best 14 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. She also dished out five assists. Jordan Brooks accounted for 13 points and Kashauna Cook had 12. Maria Femia also tallied 11. Jasmine Blanton scored seven and recorded a game-high six assists. Asia Greenleaf registered five steals.
In the loss, Amanda Peoples scored a game-high 17 points for the Battlers. Natalie Smith chipped in 11 points while Zipporah Tidwell had seven. Smith led the squad with four rebounds while Erica Brooks dished out a team-high three assists. A-B netted 20-of-25 foul shots.
